BLOG 3/30/10 by Peter S.

Getting up at 6 a.m. is hard and knowing that the class mates are on holidays should be even worse. But today this doesn’t matter anything to me. We’re in the USA and this is our first proper schoolday. We “shadow” our hostpartners into every lesson. This includes for example chemistry in English or Orchestra in one of the great rooms that make me want to move to Denver but it also means attending the very funny German lessons with so many funny pronounciation problems. In contrast to Germany pupils here have the same schedule from Monday till Friday. Teachers seem to be much less strict than in Germany. After school my partner takes me to a meeting of the National Honor Society Club, an organisation for good pupils in which they can help in social companies/do charity work for free. We drive to Denver and help “Urban Peaks” a place especially for homeless teens or young adults. We make them sandwiches for dinner. The people are really friendly and polite which is quite impressive. The organization has really cool rooms for brake-dancing and recording rap songs. The people can paint any wall with graffiti which makes the whole house just awesome. Afterwards we go to a Boys Scout Tribute (quite similar to “Pfadfinder”) were the Scouts get thousands of badges for every activity they joined.

  1. We may have a few German problems, such as saying things correctly, or using the right words in sentences but to us all that matters is that we try. However, knowing you guys are all German and can speak English very well doesn't make things easier. :) But we are glad you guys can speak well English or else it might of made things even harder.

  2. Getting up at 530 is really hard! I agree! There are some teachers that are more strict than others but you get used to it. I have been to that graffiti house. It was very fun when I went also. I am glad you are having a great time!

  5. Speaking German is very tough, especially since you guys are so good at it. It think it makes us very nervous because we know we're going to say something totally wrong. :)I'm sure its weird for you to hear so much English and its probably kind of hard to keep up. But i love seeing you guys speak good English its sooooo cool. I wish i had an accent like you guys do. I hope you really like Colorado and Horizon High School!!!

  9. I also hope your adventures continue here Colorado. I've been amazed on how well you guys have been speaking English. It's been a lot of fun having you guys here. I remember going to a football field and playing American football with the German kids. They scored a couple touchdown.
